(AP) – Kansas farmers have planted about 70
percent of next year’s winter wheat crop.
Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Tuesday the
wheat planting still lags behind the 77 percent in the ground at
this time a year ago, as well as the 74 percent average.
Harvest of other crops is also making progress.
About 19 percent of the soybean harvest is in. Farmers have cut
40 percent of their corn and 8 percent of their sorghum in the
state. About 8 percent of the sunflowers also are in the bin.
