Western Kansas Is A Big Reason For State’s Wind Potential

Western Kansas is playing a big part in the state’s new ranking for wind energy potential. Kansas is number two on the list, ranking just behind Texas. A new scientific study showed that Kansas could generate more than three times as much electricity than what was originally thought.

In the past year, a new wind farm was built near Leoti, and another is currently in the works just outside of Spearville. Scientists say the state’s flat geography allows energy companies to put a wind farm almost anywhere.
