Viveros Makes Swath Through Hesston Meet

The Liberal cross country team took third and the girls placed sixth at Hesston Thursday. There were eight races divided by classes and gender. The LHS boys scored 45 for third trailing only Kapaun (42) and Bishop Carroll (17). Liberal beat Newton (63), Derby (72), Goddard Eisenhauer (87), Maize South (108), Hesston (122), Salina South (148), Cheney (166), Smoky Valley (187), and Salina Central (210).
The LHS girls were sixth trailing Bishop Carroll (13), Kapaun (26), Goddard Eisenhauer (29), Derby (35), and Maize South (35). Liberal scored 41 and led Newton (57), Salina South (62), and Smoky Valley (91).
Liberal had 18 medalists who finished in the top 20. In the senior boys race, Fidel Munoz was third while Eric Minjarez was fifth and Garret Allaman was 17th. In the senior girls race, Diana Frausto was 14th while Lizette Avalos was 16th and Keny DelVal was 17th
In the junior race Daniel Frazier was 18th in the boys race and Destyni Lucero took second in the girls race.
Liberal’s Angel Viveros won the sophomore race in 16:52 ahead of Marco Espinoza (9th), and Ricardo Bustos (19th). In the girls sophomore race, Mercy Perez was ninth and McKenzie Wright was 15th.
In the freshman boys race, Jerry Valdez was ninth ahead of Obed Quintana (10th) and Luis Medina (11th). In the freshman girls race, Alexandria Chandler was seventh followed by Janette Borunda (8th) and Vanessa DeLeon (16th).
