If you are going to run from Boston to San Diego, you may as well run the International Pancake Day Course in Liberal. Katie Visco ran the 415 yard “S” shaped curve Tuesday during her stop in Liberal. The 23-year-old runner is in Liberal after beginning her run in Boston March 29th. She is running to raise funds for “Girls on the Run.” It’s a charity that empowers young girls through running. Visco says she wants to inspire girls to follow their dreams. “The message I am carrying is one of extreme importance for our world,” Visco said. “Really what I’m doing is trying to inspire people to find their passion in life. How I would describe a passion is something that just gives you wings. Something that makes you, you. For me it’s running and helping people.”
Billy’s will host a fundraiser for “Girls on the Run” this evening at 5:00 pm. She will also speak at several Liberal schools. Visco will be in Liberal through Thursday afternoon. She hopes to raise 32-thousand dollars. Visco says the trip has been a great experience. “I ran here all the way from Boston! It’s absolutely surreal to be here. I knew Liberal was going to be the last stop in Kansas. I’m elated to be here.”
