At 10:13 am Wednesday the Liberal Fire Department was dispatched to 803 W. 7th St. for a report of a vehicle fire next to a residence.

First arriving units at 10:15 am reported the vehicle fully engulfed with fire impinging on the residence.  The fire was quickly knocked down and the residence was checked for hidden fire extension into the attic and interior spaces.  Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 45 minutes overhauling hot spots in both the vehicle and residence.

The van involved was a total loss along with equipment carried inside.  The home suffered fire and heat damaged to the exterior.  No injuries were reported by the occupants or responders.  The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction by the equipment carried inside the van.  The fire was rapidly accelerated by the fuels stored in the van.

Liberal Fire responded with a total of 12 personnel and two engines.  Also assisting at the scene was the Liberal Police Department.
