New bleachers are coming to Liberal’s two middle school gyms next year.  The USD 480 school board Monday night approved the purchase. Eisenhower Middle School will have new bleachers next school year replacing the existing bleachers so there will be more seating capacity.  Both schools will receive expandable bleachers which seat 700 plus people.  Seymore Rogers bleachers cost $83,863 while Eisenhower’s cost $40,444.  The current bleachers at Eisenhower seat about 350 people.

The board also discussed how to use several of the district’s building which will soon be vacated.  Garfield, Washington, McDermott, Lincoln, Southlawn, McKinley, and South will be vacated due to new school buildings throughout the district.  Southlawn or Lincoln are likely destinations for a the district’s preschool.  Right now preschool is in portables in front of Washington.  The Focus and Alternative Schools would likely find new homes one of those buildings.  Currently Focus is in a portable and the district has to turn away students from the Allternative School due to lack of space.  Right now McDermott is used as storage for the short term.
