USD 480 Considers All Day Kindergarten

Liberal is currently the only class 5A school district in Kansas without all day kindergarten.  The USD 480 board heard a report on all day kindergarten Monday night.  Ninety percent of schools in Kansas offer full day kindergarten.  With new grade school buildings coming into play, they will all have room for all day kindergarten.  However, the state only provides funds for half day kindergarten and it would cost the school district about $600,500 per year to have all day kindergarten at all the grade schools.  No decision was made on this issue Monday.

The board agreed to spend up to 19 thousand dollars for asbestos removal at the old West Middle School building.  The Paradign group got the bid as the district prepares that building to become a part of Liberal High School.

The board waved the fees to the auditorium for Miss Liberal which will be about a month earlier than Pancake Day this year due to changes in the Miss Kansas schedule.
