Upcoming Events To Benefit The United Way

KSCB News - October 21, 2013 8:41 pm

If you can eat, you can donate to the Seward County United Way. The fourth and last Eat Out for United Way will be from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Ruffino’s Restaurant at the Depot.

"This is the fifth time that Ruffino’s has joined with us for an Eat Out event but they also held a wine tasting event for United Way in September," said Kay Burtzloff, executive director, Seward County United Way.

"Just remember that diners don’t pay anything extra for eating at the restaurants — the restaurants have pledged a part of their proceeds for the night to help support the 27 local non-profit agencies supported by the Seward County United Way," Burtzloff said.

The second opportunity is right in step with the season. Children of all ages can trick or treat at the “Halloween Celebration 2013” from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Southgate Mall in Liberal. Sponsored by the Mexican-American Ministries Liberal Care Center, the event will also be a fund raiser for the Seward County United Way.

Admission will be $1 per person at the door for United Way. “We had more than 800 people at last year’s event,” said Dora Ponce of Mexican American Ministries Liberal Care Center. “We had a very safe and fun event for the children and we raised more than $800 for United Way. We’re a United Way agency and we just wanted to give back for all their support.”

Ponce said that there is still booth space available. The space is free but organizations and businesses need to plan to bring their own tables and chairs. “We’re anticipating that it will be an even bigger event this year so we are advising people to plan for 1,000 this year. We ask that each booth provide a treat or an activity for the children.” There will be a prize for the best decorated booth.

For more information on either of these events, call the Seward County United Way at 620-624-5400.
