Liberal senior powerlifter Tyren Holmes is this week’s Hay Rice and Associates Athlete of the Week.  Holmes won the 6A state championship in the powerweight division Saturday at Wichita East.  He registered a squat of 650 pounds, a bench of 440 lbs, a dead lift of 615 pounds, and a total of 1,705 lbs.  He won the national championship in Appleton, Wisconsin last month with a squat of 705 pounds, a bench of 440 lbs, and a dead lift of 565 lbs.  He was a first team all WAC defensive tackle in football and will throw the shot put in track this spring.  He is also involved in the Black Student Union at LHS.
