Turpin Makes Move to 8 Man this Fall
KSCB News - August 14, 2014 2:28 pm
The Turpin Cardinals return back to 8 man football for the first time since 1983 this season. The Cardinals have six 8 man state championships to their name and two 11 man titles. The timing couldn’t be better after going 1-29 the past three football seasons.
Turpin has 29 out for football in the Class B school with eight starters back on both sides of the ball after an 0-10 season. Justin Hannah and his coaching staff return for a second season with what is now a more familiar spead offense and 4-3 defense. Hannah says he is pleased with Turpin’s "Summer Pride" conditioning program as the Cardinals have physically matured since last season. Turpin had just one senior last year.
Kyler Musgrave and Matt Young are in a competition for the quarterback spot as camp began earlier this week. Some of the key Cards include Sr. TB/LB Willie Enriquez, Sr. RG/DE Chase Huebner, Sr. QB-TE-WR/DE Kyler Musgrave, Sr. C/LB Cesar Olivares, Sr. TE/DE Isaac Resendiz, Jr. RB/LB George Dominguez, Jr. QB/DB/K/KR Matt Young, and Jr. Slot/DB Alex Jimenz. Dominguez, Young, and Jimenez were all district as sophomores.
The schedule won’t be easy as Turpin joins back to back state champ Laverne in B-1 as well as last year’s runner up Pond Creek-Hunter.
The Cardinals will be featured during the Sportsguys Friday morning between 7:37 and 9 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
