For the third straight game, the Seward County Women’s Soccer team took on a top twenty nationally ranked opponent in the #9 Cowley Tigers with the Lady Saints struggling to get past the Tigers defense as they could only get three shots off while Cowley sunk in four goals to hand SCCC a 4-0 loss.
Seward County faced a barrage of shots from the start with Miu Kamei making multiple spectacular saves to keep the scoreboard blank. The Cowley offense did manage to find a way to sneak past the Lady Saints ten minutes into the first half to launch in their first goal of the game for a 1-0 Tiger lead. Despite falling behind Seward County managed to stay the course through most of the half with the defensive line of Abigail Artley, Kiara Leiton, and Jairely Ibarra keeping the Tigers in their cage before the lock brock again and Cowley sunk in their second goal to head into the halftime break up 2-0 over the Lady Saints.
Seward County in the second half was not able to find their stride as the Tigers came out of the break with guns blazing once again as they extended their lead to 3-0 seven minutes into the second half. Meredith Rosas was the only member of SCCC to get a shot off with three on the afternoon but was unable to get them past the opposing goalkeeper. Cowley added one final goal to their score at the 64:00-minute mark to put the Lady Saints in a 4-0 deficit that they could never recover from as they failed to score in the final minutes to end with a loss to the Tigers.
Seward County now falls to 1-2-2 in the 2024 season with a conference record of 0-2-1. The Lady Saints will return to action this Saturday on September 7th when they take on the Garden City Broncbusters at 1:00 PM.
