Too Many Turnovers in Loss to Dodge City

Liberal committed 31 turnovers in a 68-49 loss to the Dodge City Red Demons Friday night in the Big House.  Dodge City wins the first Backyard Battle for the Bell in boys basketball.  DCHS led points off turnovers 32-8.

Liberal led 12-10 after one quarter.  The Red Demons led 30-26 at the half after LHS committed 18 first half turnovers.  The Redskins hung tough in the second half trailing by two 42-40 before the Demons led 48-43 after three.  Dodge City dominated the fourth quarter 20-6.

Liberal shot 41 percent but went 3-15 from three point range.  Liberal was 10-12 at the foul line.   Dodge City shot 52 percent while going 3-14 from three and 11-20 at the foul line.  Liberal out rebounded Dodge City 33-24.

James Fieser scored 14.  Brooks Kappelmann and Zayden Martinez had nine points and eight rebounds.  Adan Mata was Epic Touch Player of the Game with seven points.

Dodge City is 4-4 and 1-0 in the WAC.  They win their eighth straight over Liberal.  Liberal has lost 19 consecutive WAC games.  The Redskins lose their sixth straight and fall to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the WAC.  Liberal plays Wichita South in the Salina Invitational Tournament Thursday at 4:30 on 1270 and 92.3.
