A once ballyhooed recruit is expected to sign to play basketball at East Carolina. Former Saint guard Tony Smith committed to the Conference U.S.A. school. The 6’5″ point guard from Greenville, North Carolina averaged 14 points, seven assists, and five steals per game in 26 games for Seward County. Smith left the team during a practice February 11 after a 19-7 start to the season. The Saints would finish 24-9. Smith was being recruited by a long list of schools. Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford, Texas A@M coach Mark Turgeon, Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel, Kansas State coach Frank Martin, Wichita State Gregg Marshall, and many division 1 assistant coaches have watched Smith in person this year. East Carolina went 10-21 last year.
