Time Running Out to Vote for Catchy Awards

Three area athletes are considered one of the four best at what they do. Liberal High School’s Justin McPhail and Isai Gutierrez and Southwestern Heights’ Heidi Brown, and Meade’s football team are up for Catchy awards at catchitkansas.com.

McPhail is nominated for the top wrestler in Kansas. Here’s his competition.

Justin McPhail – Liberal (35-1 State Champion and Kansas Coaches All-Class #1 at 215 pounds)

• Jesse Trent – Dodge City (35-0 State Champion and Kansas Coaches All-Class #1 at 285 pounds)
• Alex Bontz – Andover Central (40-0 State Champion and Kansas Coaches All-Class #1 at 145 pounds)
• Matt Reed – Wichita Heights (36-0 State Champion and Kansas Coaches All-Class #1 at 160 pounds)
• Liberal soccer player Isai Gutierrez is nominated for the top boys soccer player in the state. Here is his competition.

Bryton Quick – Maize (First-Team All-State and Regional Defensive Player of the Year)

• Isai Gutierrez – Liberal (First-Team All-State and Regional Offensive Player of the Year)
• Quentin Walters – Trinity (First-Team All-State Goalie on State Championship team and did not allow a goal in the playoffs)
• Austin Clifton – Wichita Northwest (First-Team All-State and Regional Offensive Player of the Year with 24 goals and six assists)
• Southwestern Heights three sport standout Heidi Brown is nominated for girs three sport star. Here’s the four candidates.
• Heidi Brown – Southwestern Heights (Volleyball: First-Team All-State, Basketball: First-Team All-State, Track: Silver Medalist at State)
• Merissa Quick – Cheney (Volleyball: First-Team All-State, Basketball: First-Team All-State, Track: State Medalist)
• Dani Winters – Plainville (Volleyball: Honorable Mention All-State, Basketball: First-Team All-State, Track: two gold medals at State)
• Jenna Farris – Lincoln (Cross Country: Class 2A State Champion, Basketball: Honorable Mention All-State, Track: Gold and Bronze medal at State)
• The Meade football team is nominated for the top team. Meade Football – 12-1 State Champion with only loss coming to a team from Texas
• Berean Academy Boys Basketball – 25-1 State Champion with only loss coming to Moundridge
• Bennington Girls Track – Won State by 18 points with three gold medalists
• Moundridge Girls Basketball – 21-5 State Champion
