It is now illegal to sell or possess
synthetic drugs in Kansas.
A law prohibiting the
drugs known as "potpourri," ‘incense" and "bath salts" took
effect in Kansas this week.
The drugs have been said to give a methamphetamine-like high to
users. They have contributed to hospitalizations and deaths in
Kansas and across the country.
The state Legislature voted overwhelmingly this year to outlaw
the drugs after law enforcement and prosecutors advocated for it.
In 2010, the Legislature banned another synthetic marijuana-like
product, called K2. Compounds not covered by the K2 ban were
outlawed this year.
