Sublette High Suspends Coach
KSCB News - March 30, 2011 10:00 am
According to the Hutchinson News, Sublette High School has suspended its head boys basketball coach with pay.
Officials won’t confirm, however, whether the suspension is related to an investigation of an alleged inappropriate relationship between a district employee and a student.
USD 374 Superintendent Rex Bruce said he suspended Coach Matt Ziegler on March 22.
Ziegler is the school’s head basketball coach, a junior high language arts teacher and junior high and high school football coach. He’s been employed by the district four years.
Bruce wouldn’t say why Ziegler was suspended. He confirmed, however, that the USD 374 school board met in a special session on the day the suspension was issued to discuss personnel issues but took no action.
"Any time a superintendent suspends someone without board action it’s with pay," Bruce said.
The suspension is indefinite and the board will discuss it further when it meets April 11, Bruce said.
Ziegler is the only USD 374 employee on suspension, the clerk of the school board confirmed Tuesday.
The Haskell County sheriff’s office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation are conducting an investigation into allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a USD 374 employee and student, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s department.
The names of those involved haven’t been released, and no arrests had been made.
