The wording has changed due to past precedents and court cases, but the USD 480 school board supports student led messages before varsity events. Wednesday afternoon the USD 480 school board held a special meeting to make a motion to put in place a mechanism for a pre-game message. The board had to rescind a previous motion from a September 23rd meeting which supported student led prayer. The new motion allows free expression by students which can include student led prayer. There will be a mechanism for student selection based on the student volunteering and being in good standing. Student may then give a pre-game message over the public address system which may even include Friday’s homecoming game against Garden City.
