On May 18, 2010, at about 0701 a.m., officers were dispatched to 400 South Pennsylvania for a report of a stabbing. Responding officers found a 44 year old woman lying in the yard with an apparent stab wound to her abdomen. She was transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County EMS in stable condition.

The woman told officers that her boyfriend had stabbed her and was locked in the house. Officers were able to speak with the man, but he refused to come to the door.

The Liberal Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) was activated as well as a department negotiator. The SRT made entry into the residence and took a 40 year old male into custody. The man was suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County EMS in serious condition.

This case is still under investigation.
