Southwestern Heights wishes to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the graduating class of 2025.
Ryan Kisner, Principal, has announced Yasmin Garcia Ochoa as valedictorian and Kooper Scripsick as salutatorian for the class of 2025. Yasmin is the daughter of Juan and San Juana Aracely Garcia of Plains and Kooper is the son of Matt and Stacy Scripsick of Kismet. These selections are based on the students’ cumulative grade point averages throughout high school.
Yasmin has been involved in National Honor Society, KAYs, FFA, FCA, and FCCLA while in high school. Yasmin has been a member of the volleyball, basketball, and track teams and has been the baseball and football manager. Yasmin has also been in Choir and Band all 4 years, participating in the musical and participating in many band solos and ensembles. She plans to first attend Seward County Community College and will transfer to a university after completing her associates, she will major in Mathematics with an emphasis in Secondary Education.
Kooper has been involved in KAYS, Scholars Bowl, National Honor Society, Band, where he serves as President, Football, Forensics, Winter Weights, Track, and Powerlifting. As a member of the band, Kooper has auditioned and been selected to the KMEA Honor Band for 3 years and taken a number of solos and ensembles to regionals and state. Kooper is also a Kansas Scholars Curriculum Completer through the Kansas Board of Regents. He has been part of the Liberal Police Department Cadet Program for a number of years and continues to help with community service activities. Kooper plans to attend Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, where he will be a member of the football team, and major in Criminal Justice.
Both students have worked hard over the past 4 years to maintain high grades, take dual-credit and outreach college classes, and also be involved in extra-curricular activities.
Southwestern Heights congratulates these students for their achievements and wishes them well in their future endeavors. Graduation will be on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Southwestern Heights High School.
