Seven-year-old Dallas Sherman of Meade, nine-year-old Ethan Hirschfeld of Dodge City, and 11-year-old Jessica Angulo of Garden City are the southwest Kansas winners in the 2014 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest.
Each of them will receive a bicycle and a helmet during presentations by the Kansas Department of Transportation at their schools. The helmets are donated by Safe Kids Kansas. The schedule for the presentations is:

A total of 1,344 kids across Kansas, including 117 in southwest Kansas, ages 5 to 13 took the time to think about safety and participated in the contest. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
