Solid Start Lifts Lady Saints
KSCB News - March 2, 2011 7:04 am
If this were Pancake Day, the Lady Saints were the runner who built a such a big lead, it didn’t matter if they crawled backwards to the finish line, they were going to win. That was the case Tuesday night in the Green House as the Lady Saints (21-10) built a 17-0 lead and a 27-4 lead before winning 64-41 over visiting Fort Scott to advance in the Region 6 Tournament. Seward led 29-10 at halftime but the Lady Greyhounds (9-22) made their push in the second half to make it 29-17. But the Lady Hounds would never come any closer. Seward head coach Toby Wynn says he hopes that second half effort is out of their system. "I told our kids that tonight was kind of a free pass," Wynn said. "We got an opportunity tonight in front of our home crowd to not play as sharp as we need to. But we can not do some of the things we did in the second half and towards the end of the first half in Wichita on Friday and hope to be in this tournament much longer."
The Lady Saints got 19 points and nine rebounds from Mariah Lee and Kayla Thomas had 14 points to equal her career high (she had 14 at Colby). Seward shot just 35 percent but held Fort Scott to 30 percent shooting including 5-29 for the first half.
Seward plays Jayhawk East champ Cowley Friday night at Koch Arena in Wichita at 7 p.m. on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
