Slow Start Dooms Skins in Dodge

You’d think it was their senior night and they got to meet a U.S. Senator. As it turns out, that was precisely the case as Dodge City bolted out to a 19-7 lead on Liberal and won the WAC with a 54-47 win over the Redskins Friday night in the Dodge City Fieldhouse. The Red Demon senior athletes shook the hand of U.S. Senator Pat Roberts before the boys game.

The Red Demons led 19-7 after one quarter and 33-25 at halftime. Dodge led 47-36 after three quarters. The Skins cut that lead to five 48-43 with 3:54 to play and 50-45 with 2:03 to play.

Dodge City took and made a lot of high percentage shots against a shell shocked Liberal team which trailed 9-0 early.

DeVondre Livingston led the Redskins with 16 points while B.J. Washington added 12. Dodge City’s Trey Hallman scored 15 on Senior Night.

The Red Demons beat Liberal for the 14th time in the last 15 tries in Dodge City. DCHS wins their third straight WAC title going 7-1 and 11-9 overall.

The Redskins are 8-12 overall and finish 4-4 in the WAC. But after Salina South lost to Derby, the Redskins remain at #3 seed in sub state. They will host the 6-14 Newton Railers Wednesday night in the Big House on Talkradio 1270. Newton ties Hays at 6-14 in sub state but the Indians beat Newton earlier this year for the tie breaker. The winner goes to Newton to play Salina Central or Great Bend Friday.
