Two sisters will race against each other Mar. 8 in the International Pancake Day Race, as Melanie Knudsen, 19, joins her sister Mikayla, 21, as a contestant. This will be Melanie ’ s first International race, while Mikayla is competing for the fourth time. Other contestants are first-time racers Misty Vaught, 35, and Nicole Schowengerdt, 28.
Race sign-ups for all ages continue through Saturday. The Men ’ s Pacer Race and the Women ’ s Last Chance Race both have contestants but still have space available. Some children ’ s categories are full.
The International Race pits the women of Liberal, Kansas, against the ladies of Olney, England. This race is limited to women age 18 or older with a Liberal address who have “domestic duties.” (High school students who are 18 should enter the youth division.)
Sign-ups are at the Tourist Information Center, One Yellow Brick Road, across from the Coronado Museum. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the form. No late sign-ups will be accepted. For more information on any event, call 620-624-6423.
