Sheriff’s Department Releases Statement on Seward County Homicide

Undersheriff Gene Ward of the Seward County Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement regarding a homicide in Seward County:

“The Seward County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible homicide and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been requested to help us in the investigation, It’s my understanding they’ll be releasing more information as the investigation continues.”

Ward confirmed the nature of the investigation.

“I can say we’re working a homicide and we’ve requested assistance from the KBI,” Ward said. “And as for the rumors that have been spread around about the different areas and that we found five or six bodies, that is not true at all. The only investigation we’re undergoing right now is for a victim found at the Seven Winds trailer park west of Liberal, and Melissa Underwood with the KBI will be releasing all their information in reference to this case. But there have been no other people found deceased besides that victim. We are also working on following up on leads.”
