With week one of KJCCC Volleyball action in the books, the league announced on Tuesday that Seward County sophomore Thayna Silva has been named the conference’s Player of the Week.
After missing the 2013 season with a knee injury, Silva bounced back in a big way to open the 2014 season, with a weekend in which she averaged 4.00 kills and 3.27 digs per set while hitting .420. In match number one of the year, Silva put together one of the more impressive stat lines that you will ever see a player accomplish. With her team down 2-0, Silva sprung to action for the Lady Saints, finishing the third set with 9 kills on 11 attacks and followed that with 7 kills on 10 attacks in the fourth set. She finished the match with 21 kills and just 1 error in 30 attacks, good for a .667 hitting percentage. In the Lady Saints second match of the day she continued to dominate, hammering down 14 kills and pulling up 14 digs in a quick 3-0 win against Clarendon. On Saturday, she played in just 4 sets in 3-0 sweeps for Seward.
Silva and the Lady Saints open Jayhawk West action on Wednesday when they travel to Great Bend to take on the Barton Cougars.
