One day after picking up her first Jayhawk West Conference Player of the Week honors, Seward County Lady Saints outside hitter Thayna Silva has added an even bigger award to her trophy case as she was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week for her performance in three Seward wins.
Silva hammered down 40 kills and had 50 digs on the week in three Seward County wins, posting back to back double-doubles on Wednesday in a triangular. Monday against Pratt she finished with 6 kills and 11 digs as the Lady Saints coasted to a 3-0 victory. Wednesday in Seward’s first match of the day against Garden City she put down a career high 15 kills and had 12 digs for her first career double-double. In the nightcap against Redlands she stepped up her game another level and collected 19 kills while hitting .357 and was equally as good on defense where she finished with 27 digs, a season high for the Lady Saints.
She and her Lady Saints will look to move to 5-1 in Jayhawk West action tonight as they head to Dodge City to take on the Lady Conqs in a 6:30 start on the campus of DCCC.
