Seward Women’s Tennis in 9th at Nationals

TYLER, Texas – The Lady Saints go 7-0 on day two of the 2023 Women’s Tennis National Championship putting them in prime position heading into quarterfinal action. Seward County used Sunday of the tournament as “moving day” and went from 16th place after day one to now being placed in the top 10 at 9th after day two action.
First matches on the day were Camille Belberka and Carol Mora squaring off in their 2nd round singles matches with each Lady Saint making quick work of their oppenents. Belberka captured victory over Alexandra Mille of USC-Sumter in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-0. Mora defeated Lexie Luders of Wallace State in straight sets also, winning 6-0, 6-3. Both Lady Saints will be in quarterfinal action at 8 a.m. Ct tomorrow.
Next up were Ana Isabela Serrano and Camila Corraleswho both notched two more straight set victories. Serrano defeated Maggie Savell of Jones college 6-0, 6-0 to move on to the next round while Corrales beat Kendall Burn of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 6-2, 6-0. Serrano and Corrales will be in quarterfinal action tomorrow with Serrano’s match starting at 8 a.m. CT and Camila’s match following at 9:30 a.m. CT.
Both of the Lady Saints’ doubles pairings captured victory in the late morning. The pairing of Camille Belberka and Carol Mora defeated East Central Community College’s Maud Tsura and Camila Vanegas in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Jaena Morais and Ana Isabela Serrano defeated Hannah Vosteen and Taji Williams of Coastal Alabama 6-1, 6-0 to move on to the next round. Both pairings will compete tomorrow in quarterfinal action.
The last Lady Saints’ singles match on the day was Jaena Morais matched up against Victoria Woodruff of Mercer County Community College. Morais was able to win the match 8-0 and stays alive in the back draw helping the Lady Saints gain much needed points. Morais will compete in the quarterfinals of the back draw of her flight.
