After a ten-hour bus ride to Wyoming, the Seward County Lady Saints Women’s Soccer team finally kicked off their 2024 season in a big way as they scored the first four goals of the game to take down Gillette 4-1 on the road and put themselves in the win column to start the year 1-0.
Natoya Atkinson got the scoring started in the first half for the Lady Saints as she dribbled her way down the field and found open space to launch in the first goal of the game past the opposing goalkeeper to put her team ahead 1-0. After the halftime break it was Dayra Dinarte who found a path early into the second half as she cashed in a goal of her own three minutes into the half before scoring her second goal of the game ten minutes later to take a commanding 3-0 lead over Gillette. The final goal for Seward County came from the outer wing by Isabelle Artley who connected with the net off a lightning quick shot to make the score 4-0 to all but clinch the win with thirty minutes left. A late goal from Gillette with 3:47 left on the clock put them on the board 4-1 but could not find any more open shots as the Lady Saints defense silenced the Pronghorns and gave Seward County a season opening win to kick the 2024 season off 1-0.
Dinarte led all scorers with 2 goals on the afternoon while Atkinson and Artley each contributed 1 goal apiece. Goalkeeper Miu Kamei protected the goal throughout all 90:00 minutes of action and recorded 3 saves in her first game as a Lady Saint.
Seward County will return to action tomorrow to face Western Wyoming for day two of their road trip in Gillette, WY. at 1:00 PM before heading back home to prepare for their home opener against Kansas City Kansas on Wednesday August 28th at 6:00 PM.
