Seward Women Tie at Coffeyville

Brock Kappelmann - September 22, 2024 8:40 am

On Saturday afternoon the Seward County Lady Saints stepped foot on the field against the Coffeyville Red Ravens to try and repeat the magic from their 2023 win on the road against their conference foe and despite scoring a goal like the previous year, they gave one up as well to end the contest in a 1-1 tie with both sides taking a result from the matchup.

The first 45:00 minutes saw both sides relying on their defensive prowess to remain in control as neither side could push down field. The Lady Saints found a few open spots with Meredith Rosasand Averi Wagner each getting shot on goal attempts off but could not make it past the keeper. Natoya Atkinson managed to dribble past her defender and slice past another one to get enough open space for another SCCC shot that landed just outside the mark to keep the game scoreless at 0-0. Miu Kamei helped to protect the goal for the Lady Saints with a pair of saves in the first half and did not need to fear much thanks to the strong back line of Abigail Artley, Kiara Leiton, and Eduarda Martins who held off the Red Ravens to enter the halftime break locked up at 0-0.

Through the first 70:00 minutes of the game the score board remained blank with both Seward County and Coffeyville fighting to be the first on the board. That honor went to the Red Ravens who found an open spot twenty yards out and launched in a high flying shot that went above the outreached hand of Kamei for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead for Coffeyville. After giving up a goal to the Red Ravens, the Lady Saints had to fight back and find a way to score and lock the score back up against their conference foe. The answer they were looking for came in the form of Dayra Dinarte who was found by Giuliani Granadafor an open shot attempt that sailed into the back corner of the cross bar to put SCCC on the board in the last five minutes. In the final minutes of the contest, it was the Lady Saints who put pressure on the Red Ravens with multiple attempts to score and take the lead but had to settle with a result in a 1-1 tie on the road in Coffeyville.

Seward County now sits at 2-4-3 on the 2024 season with a conference record of 1-4-2 following their draw with the Red Ravens. The Lady Saints will continue their six-game road stint on Wednesday when they take on the Barton Cougars in Great Bend with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM.
