Seward County Volleyball saw their 2024 season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as they kicked off the Region VI Tournament with a matchup against a top ten nationally ranked team in Colby who swept the Lady Saints for the second time this year.
SCCC entered into Colby listed as the underdog with thoughts of an upset on their minds but could not put thought into action as they played from behind in all three sets. Keala Wilson stepped in as the setter for the Lady Saints and set up Mariana Silva and Ana Nikolic at both ends of the net to score some much-needed kills for Seward County and help trim away at their deficits. Lajla Rasljanin rose up for some powerful swings down the middle while also holding strong on the defensive side as she and Marcelina Pyka each recorded roof raising blocks while Lisa Gomez protected the back line with dig after dig to try and keep SCCC in reach. Their efforts however were all for not as they eventually fell in set one (25-17), (25-12), and finally set three (25-15) to end their 2024 season.
Seward County finishes the year 8-19 with a 4-12 KJCCC record while finishing as the seventh seed in the conference standings. They will now wait to hear next week who from the Lady Saints earned spots on the All-Conference teams.
