Seward Softball Loses Two More in Texas

JUSTIN, Tex. – The Seward County softball team suffered a pair of losses to end their weekend Saturday morning, losing to Northern Oklahoma Enid 6-3 and North Central Texas 14-2.
SEWARD COUNTY VS NORTHERN OKLAHOMA ENID
Corrina Porras<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/porras_corrina_f691> got the start in the circle, pitching 4.0 innings. She gave up three runs off four hits before Alyssah Pontoja<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/pontoja_alyssah_s8bs> (0-1) came in for relief. Pontoja gave up two runs off three hits over 3.0 innings.
Jaci Oakley<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/oakley_jaci_36qj> led the Lady Saints with three hits on the day. Madeline Owen<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/owen_madeline_mwtu> drove in a team-high two runs, going 2-for-4 from the plate.
Enid jumped out with the lead in the top of the third, scoring three runs from a triple and a sacrifice fly to left field.
Seward closed the gap in the bottom of the sixth. Cassandra Esquibel<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/esquibel_cassandra_qdk7> led off with a single to left field before being driven home with a Jaci Oakley<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/oakley_jaci_36qj> double. Oakley crossed home two batters later after Madeline Owen<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/owen_madeline_mwtu> singled up the middle.
After holding the Jets scoreless in the seventh, the Lady Saints forced extra innings with an RBI single by Nissy Lechuga<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/lechuga_nissy_kzhm> to score AJ Luna<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/luna_aj_8q0e>.
Enid quickly loaded the bases in extra innings off an error and fielder’s choice. The following batter was hit by a pitch to score the go-ahead run. A single with the next at bat scored two more to make it 6-3.
Miranda Nester<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/nester_miranda_65ij> was put on second to start extra innings for the Lady Saints. A wild pitch pushed Nester to third before an error on a ground ball from Madeline Owen<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/owen_madeline_mwtu> allowed Nester to score. A strikeout and double-play ended the game with the Jets pulling out the win 6-4.

Jordan Cordrey<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/cordrey_jordan_e7tl> (0-3) started in the second game, pitching 3.1 innings. She gave up nine runs off 13 hits. Corrina Porras<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/porras_corrina_f691> and Alyssah Pontoja<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/pontoja_alyssah_s8bs> combined for 2.2 innings pitched in relief. North Central Texas scored five more runs off five hits.
Nissy Lechuga<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/lechuga_nissy_kzhm> led Seward with two hits. Alyssah Pontoja<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/pontoja_alyssah_s8bs> and Jordan Cordrey<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/cordrey_jordan_e7tl> also finished with one hit.
The Lions scored in the opening inning on a two-out triple, before Cordrey struck out the final batter.
North Central Texas scored six more runs in the second inning. Three straight singles opening the inning, scoring two runs. After a sacrifice bunt, the Lions connected on four more singles to score four more runs to take a 7-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, the Lions scored two more runs, coming off a bases loaded walk and single.
Seward kept the game alive in the bottom of the fourth. Madeline Owen<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/owen_madeline_mwtu> scored on a wild pitch before Jordan Cordrey<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/cordrey_jordan_e7tl> hit a line drive single to center field to score Alyssah Pontoja<http://sewardsaints.com/sports/sball/2018-19/bios/pontoja_alyssah_s8bs>, bringing the game to 9-2.
The Lions put the game away in the sixth. With two outs, NCT loaded the bases and brought home four runs with each of the next four batters to make it 14-2.
The Lady Saints will have their home opener on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. double-header against Clarendon College at French Family Field.
