Seward Soccer Sweeps Weekly KJCCC Awards

Brock Kappelmann - September 25, 2024 6:32 am

Matheus Ambrozio made history for the Saints over the past week as he helped lead Seward County to a perfect 2-0 week with the first ever hat trick of three goals in a single game to earn him his first KJCCC Player of the Week honors of his career.

Ambrozio put his foot on the gas all week long with a total of 16 shots on the week including 9 that landed on goal between the Saints’ matchup with Tabor JV and Coffeyville where the sophomore midfielder connected on three goals this past Saturday. His first goal of the night came in the first ten minutes off a penalty kick and later followed it up with a pair of rocket shots that landed in the back of the goal for a 4-1 win over the Red Ravens in KJCCC action.

This is the first Player of the Week honor ever awarded to a player from the Seward County men’s soccer program and the first of Ambrozio’s career. The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Great Bend to face the Barton Cougars in an early matchup with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.

Every week the Jayhawk Conference announces the best goalkeeper in the KJCCC for the past seven days and throughout the first five weeks of the 2024 season every award has gone to the same name in Seward County’s very own Bruno Mestres.

Mestres has been named the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week for all five weeks of the season with the Jayhawk announcing his latest recognition on September 24th which makes it the seventh time in his Saints career he has earned the honor. Over the past week Mestres helped protect the goal and lead Seward County to two wins on the week with a total of eight saves. He recorded four saves in non-conference action against Tabor JV with only an own goal allowed from his defender. A few days later he recorded the same stat line in KJCCC action against Coffeyville, Mestres made four saves and allowed one goal given up off a penalty kick attempt to earn his fourth win of the year in net. Mestres now ranks fifth in the NJCAA in saves (55), save percentage (.917), and 13th in wins.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Great Bend to face the Barton Cougars in an early matchup with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
