You can’t be a good softball team without pitching. That is an absolute truth in a sport in which most teams use two or three pitchers. The disparity in the circle was again evident Wednesday afternoon as Seward "T’d" off on Colby pitching to win 8-0 and 18-4 at Lady Saints Field. In game one, Sydney Cicchetti pitched her second straight shutout with 13 strikouts and three hits. The win was her 35th in two years making her third in SCCC history. Michelle Duford cracked a homer over the left field fence while Leah Sitter was 2-4 with two RBI’s. Sitter stole her 45th career base in the first for a school record breaking Meisha Patterson’s record. Ashley Sullivan was 2-3 with two RBI’s while Jill Rodgers and Monique Lopez added two hits a piece.
In game two, Blaire Taylor pitched the five innings for the win. Taylor McDougall slugged a homer and drove home three runs. Leah Sitter was 3-4 with two RBI’s. Jill Rodgers had two hits and three RBI’s while Michelle Duford had two hits and two RBI’s and Bianca Adame added two hits.
Seward is 27-7 overall and Colby is 3-15. The Saints are 4-2 in the Jayhawk West and host Garden City Monday.
