Seward Falls Flat On Diamonds this Weekend

2012 is not going to be a year to remember for Seward
County baseball and softball fans as both the Saints and Lady Saints
were bounced early from their Region VI Tournaments over the weekend.
The Saints hosted the Liberal Sub-Regional and were shocked by 8th
seeded Allen County in the opening round 15-11 in a wild game that saw
16 runs scored in the 9th and 10th innings and then were the first team
eliminated from the tournament after conference rival Colby put it on
them 13-5 in a run rule in their second game. Things weren’t much
better for the Lady Saints softball team as they entered their
tournament at Wichita State University with high hopes after finishing
the season on a strong note, but were hammered 11-6 by Garden City in
the opening round and had to battle from behind against 4th seeded
Barton to win 7-5 in extra innings just to survive day one. On Sunday
against 5th seeded Colby, the Lady Saints came up on the short end of a
9-5 decision to end the tournament and hence their season.
