On January 13, 2024 in the late afternoon, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle pursuit entering Kansas from Oklahoma. The pursuit was terminated after law enforcement lost visual of the fleeing vehicle in Liberal. A member of the Seward County Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Team located the fleeing vehicle east of Liberal on Highway 54. The vehicle failed to stop and led law enforcement on a pursuit. Seward County Sheriff’s Office requested Meade County assistance in stopping the fleeing vehicle by use of a tire deflation device, which successfully deflated a tire. However, the vehicle continued fleeing from law enforcement. The vehicle eventually came to a stop east of Minneola on Highway 54. The sole occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. Approximately 20 pounds of crystal methamphetamine was located which had been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit. Formal charges will be presented to the Seward County Attorney’s Office. The Seward County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Ford County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol for their assistance with this incident.
