On Friday may 5, 2023 Seward County Firefighters we’re dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in Northern Seward County. Fire was reported on road I and Road 21. Units arrived in the area with nothing found at this location. While units were being redirected to the correct location, Dispatchers advised of a second vegetation fire in southwestern Seward County on Highway 54 and Mile Marker 2.

Seward County Firefighter resources were split between the two calls, due to travel times, a mutual aid was requested from Liberal Fire Department and Tyrone Fire Department.

The first fire was approximately 400 Sq feet in size and was extinguished by farm employees. The cause of the fire was accidental in nature.

The second fire was approximately two acres and was extinguished by firefighters. The cause is undetermined roadside start.
