The Seward County Commission met on Monday evening for their regular meeting and awarded 2 scholarships to the Students of Employees. Each year the committee is able to give two $400.00 scholarship awards. Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a Seward County Employee, must be enrolled full-time in the fall semester, and have a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Both of this year’s winners have met those requirements. The Employee Committee has 2 scholarship certificates to award to the following students: Khiley Davis-Daughter of Cindy & Donny Davis-Treasures Office, and Aubrey Warden-Daughter of April & Ron Warden, Seward County Administrator.
The Commission let die for a lack of a motion the $1,500 to the KNRC for a Special Dues Assessment regarding the listing of the Lesser Prairie Chicken, and heard from Brie Greeson, Health Department Director, regarding an update on COVID-19.
AK Roofing made presentation at the Commission Meeting to discuss the Courthouse Roofing Project, and Commissioners approved an amendment to resolution 2021-18 to correct a typographical error.
The County will be receiving between $4.1 and $4.2 million as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The County received proposals for a consulting firm to provide expertise to augment staff’s capabilities to ensure compliance with federal regulations while maximizing the beneficial uses of Rescue Plan dollars in the local community. The amount is not to exceed $192,760.00. This will be back before the next Commission with more information.
The Commission approved the hiring of two new rural firefighters, and approved sending notification to the Clerks Office of the revenue neutral rate of 50 mils for the General Budget and at 8 mils for Rural Fire. The Commission also set the hearing for both for September 7th.
