Hopkins, Whipple earn KJCCC baseball honors with Player of Week Awards in the West Division
COLBY, Kan. – Following a season-opening doubleheader home split with Lamar Community College, Seward County Community College baseball players Nathan Hopkins and Braden Whipple have earned the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Baseball West Division Player of the Week awards for the 2025 season.
Nathan Hopkins – Seward County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Hopkins went four-for-nine in a season-opening doubleheader for Seward County as the Saints split with Lamar Community College to open their season. In the season-opener, Hopkins had a double and scored one of the three Seward County runs before putting together a three-for-five performance in game two with another double and two RBI.
Braden Whipple – Seward County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Whipple made his first appearance of the season in the back end of a home doubleheader for Seward County by coming on in relief against Lamar Community College. Tossing three innings in relief, Whipple allowed just one walk and struck out six of the 11 batters faced while not allowing a hit in his appearance which allowed the Saints to add to their 2-1 lead as SCCC went on to win 5-1 and split the season-opening doubleheader.
