Second Half Lead Slips Away from Redskins

The Liberal Redskins had all the momentum.  The crowd was roaring.  Visiting Dodge City was staggering against Liberal’s press.  Liberal built a five point lead after three.  But the Red Demons rolled in the fourth quarter handing Liberal a 70-61 loss in the Big House Thursday night.

Dodge City jumped on Liberal early taking a 20-9 lead.   Dodge looked like they may run off and hide when they took a 27-11 lead.  The the Redskins had a rally in them going on a 25-4 run to make it 31-26 Demons at the half.   Liberal out scored Dodge City 17-11 in the second quarter and played one of their best quarters of the season in the third out scoring DCHS 24-14 in the third for a 50-45 lead.  But Dodge City quickly erased the lead and out scored the Skins 25-11 in the fourth quarter.

Both teams forced 23 turnovers.  Liberal out rebounded Dodge City 35-32.  Both teams shot 44 percent from the field.  Liberal was 3-19 from three point range and 14-26 from the foul line.  Dodge was 5-20 from three and 17-23 from the free throw line.

James Fieser was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 26 points and seven rebounds.  Eathan Hernandez had 18 points and six rebounds.

Dodge City is 6-14 overall and 3-5 in the WAC.  Dodge City wins their 12th straight over Liberal and their sixth straight at Liberal.  The Redskins have lost 33 straight WAC games.  Liberal will play at Wichita Heights next week on 1270 and 92.3.
