A week after stepping down as Secretary of Health and Human Services, there are reports that Kathleen Sebelius may have further political plans.

A New York Times report out Wednesday speculates that Sebelius may return to Kansas to run against Senator Pat Roberts.

However, local democrats are downplaying the speculation.

They would welcome the return of the former Kansas governor to local politics.

Kansas has not sent a democrat to the Senate since the Great Depression.

Sebelius served as the governor of Kansas from 2003 to 2009.

In 2009, Governor Sebelius was nominated for U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Mark Parkinson was sworn in as governor to fill out Sebelius’ term.
