In celebration of Certified Nurses Day, March 19, Seward County Community College/Area Technical School recognizes its certified nurses.
Carmen Sumner, Surgical Technology coordinator, recently earned the credential of CNOR® , the only accredited credentialing program for perioperative registered nurses. She is a registered nurse and has a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Veda King, director of Nursing and the Allied Health Division chair, is board certified Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS-BC). She is a registered nurse and holds a master’s degree in nursing.
Certified Nurses Day started as just an idea and quickly gained support before the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) launched the program nationwide in 2008. ANCC selected March 19th as it is the birthday of Margrette Madden Styles, who is known as the “Mother of Nursing Credentialing”. This special day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contribution of board certified nurses to the advancement of nursing professionalism and to higher standards and better outcomes in patient health.
