LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Humanities Department will be holding its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2 in the Clifford and Irene Pepper Showcase Theater on the SCCC campus.
The concert will highlight the talents of the student choir and the student band, featuring pieces practiced throughout the spring semester.
The band will perform a compilation of themes from movies and television programs.
“Movies titles are a huge passion of mine,” says Claire Thompson, SCCC instrumental music instructor. “It’s something that my students are also interested in. I love movie music. (The students) are more interested in television shows and video games so we combined to create a theme for this concert.
The choir will not have a theme instead focusing on entering pieces, said Magda Silva, SCCC humanities division chair and vocal music instructor.
“We just decided to do fun, cool songs,” Silva said. “We’re doing a French piece so the students have had to learn French. We’re ending with a real cool piece with soloists performing. I’m excited.
“We have a smaller choir so there’s no use having a big piece with a smaller group,” she noted. “We chose pieces that fit the group and these kids are working hard and rocking it.”
The choir will kick off the concert, followed by the band.
Tickets are three dollars each and can be purchased in advance at the “Welcome Desk” in the Hobble Building or at the door on the night of the concert. All proceeds go to scholarships for the music department.
