SCCC Offers Multiple Ways to ‘Make Summer Count’ with Summer Courses

Joe Denoyer - May 19, 2023 10:51 am

LIBERAL, Kan. — Summer arrives in mere days, and Seward County Community College will offer multiple options to “Make Summer Count” with on-campus and online summer sessions. Three separate in-person summer terms are scheduled for campus attendance, as well as online options through SCCC’s online delivery system and the statewide EduKan online consortium. It all adds up to more than 150 opportunities to collect college credits and get ahead with a degree or certificate.

“Summer sessions provide a valuable option for students who are catching up or planning to get ahead,” said SCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Luke Dowell. “In either case, the student dedicates several weeks of intense focus to complete an entire college semester’s work. The results are powerful.”

Traditional classes on the Saints campus kick off May 30, with daily sessions running Monday through Thursday until June 29. Session two starts June 5 and runs through June 29, with the Monday through Thursday schedule. A third session runs from July 5 to 27, with classes Monday through Thursday.

Dowell noted that each session offers a slightly different array of options, all of which can be viewed online via the dynamic class schedule at sccc.edu, beneath the “academics” tab and the “class schedule” listing.

“We have multiple sessions of gen-eds like beginning, intermediate, and college algebra, English composition I and II, Public Speaking and Psychology,” he said. “There are a lot of specialty classes in subjects that are prerequisites for our Allied Health programs, art, literature, business, industrial technology. Not all of them are available through every session, so it’s important to enroll early if there is something the student has to get done within a particular time frame.”

For students who are not able to get to campus due to geography or work schedules, a robust array of Seward Online and EduKan classes provides options for all subjects, from marketing to medical terminology, nutrition, history, astronomy, and even introduction to cinema.

“When we say there’s something for everyone, we’re absolutely serious,” said Dowell. “We’ll help you figure out what works if you have questions.”

The SCCC admissions, financial aid, and business staff are on campus all summer. Offices are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. For more information, call the college at 620-417-1100.
