SCCC Coach Treats Girls to Clinic After Teams Back Out of LHS Tournament

The Lady Redskin Tennis Team began their season Saturday hosting a triangular event that included Scott City and Ashland. When two teams backed out of our tournament at the last minute, SCCC Coach Greg Owen came to the rescue. After completing our tournament, all girls were treated to a clinic by Coach Owen. Area coaches were thankful for our adjustment to a bad situation, and all participants seemed to have fun making their trip to Liberal worthwhile.

Individual Results:
#1 Singles—Tierra Stoney went 2-0 finishing 1st Place
#2 Singles—Valery Esqueda went 0-2 on the day learning the hard way not to dig a hole with a slow start.
#1 Doubles—Rebecca Irby and Jadyn Williams, playing their 1st Varsity tournament, went 0-2 on the day but gained valuable experience that will carry over to their next match.
#2 Doubles—Reyna Quinones and Elizabeth Luebbers went 0-2 on the day but lost close matches, one a heart-breaking tie-breaker defeat.

Ashland took team honors with 13 points followed by Scott City with 11 points and Liberal with 6 points. Liberal’s next tournament is September 8th in Ulysses.
