In 1956 Major League Baseball Commissioner Ford Frick
began an award for the top pitcher in the league called the Cy Young
Award, haply named after arguably the best pitcher prior to that in
league history. After winning the KJCCC Pitcher of the Week award for
the seventh time in eight weeks on the 2011 softball season, KJCCC
Commissioner Bryce Roderick might just have to think about changing the
name of that award to the Sydney Cicchetti Award by season’s end.
Cicchetti picked up the weekly conference award for the seventh time
this year after she racked her season win total up to 20 this week as
she was 4-0 while posting a 0.81 ERA in four starts. Monday against
Garden City she would keep the high powered Busters offense off the
board for the final 6 innings of the game while striking out 7 and
Wednesday she would beat Jayhawk West rival Butler by going all 7
innings without allowing an earned run and again striking out 7.
Saturday she allowed just 1 earned run in a complete game win over Maple
Woods and on Sunday she would fire a two hit shutout over Johnson
County. (Roy Allen)
