Saints Tennis Continues to Roll at Nationals

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 3 Saints tennis team is marching on at Nationals. Of the nine semifinal matches in singles and doubles, Seward County Community College will be represented in six of them on Thursday.
After quarterfinal victories on Wednesday, Nicolas Rousset, Carlo Izurieta, Gabe Nery and Alex Mesquida Berg have advanced in singles while Motlojoa and Rousset and Francisco Vargas and Izurieta have moved on in doubles.
In singles, No. 1 Rousset defeated Harford’s Thomas (Harford) Norwood, 6-4, 6-4 No. 3 Izurieta beat Mesa’s Maxim Kirsch, 6-3, 6-3, No. 5 Nery knocked off Cowley’s Killian Dagneaux, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, No. 6 Alex Mesquida Berg cruised past Mesa’s Lucas Severo, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Vargas fell to ASA Miami’s Gustavo Cruz, 5-7, 4-6.
In doubles, No. 2 Nyathi Motlojoa and Rousset defeated Laredo’s Alberto Mello and Juan David Ramirez 6-4, 6-2 and No. 3 Vargas and Izurieta beat Adrian Martinez and Rodrigo Mere, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. No.1 Sander Jans and Nery were beaten by Cowley’s Angelo Tost and Bruno Suiama, 5-7, 4-6.
In their respective single divisions, Rousset is a two seed, Vargas is a six seed, Izurieta and Nery are four seeds and Berg is a three seed.
In doubles, Motlojoa and Rousset and Izurieta and Vargas are three seeds while Nery and Jans are a four seed.
