The Seward baseball team won their first two games of their west Texas road trip by taking two at Odessa Friday afternoon. The Saints took two from the Odessa Wranglers 4-2 and 9-2.
In game one, Odessa scored an unearned run in the first before Seward tied it in the second. The Wranglers plated a fourth inning run to lead 2-1. The “Guys in Green” broke through with three in the seventh to lead 4-2. Seward out-hit Odessa 7-4. SCCC had two errors and Odessa had one. Brooks Kappelmann pitched six strong innings for the win. He struck out four and walked two allowing four hits and one earned run. John Langehennig pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Cross Durham was 2-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run. Brooks Barber drove home two runs.
The Saints and Wranglers played nine innings in game two. Seward out-hit the Wranglers 16-9. Both teams played error free baseball. The Saints scored six in the fourth and two in the sixth to lead 8-1. Beau Lang pitched four strong innings allowing one earned run. He struck out two and did not issue a walk allowing two hits. Braden Whipple went five innings in relief allowing one earned run with three strikeouts and two walks. Cross Durham was 3-5 with two RBI’s. Nathan Hopkins, Brooks Barber, Blaine Clancy, Jacob Urias, Ryan Todd, and John Langehennig had two hits a piece.
Odessa is 4-4. The Saints are 5-3 and play two at Midland Saturday at noon.
