The Seward County Saints split at Cloud Thursday afternoon and evening. The Saints took game one 7-6 and Cloud won game two 17-9.
In game one, Seward scored five second inning runs. Hayden Ramage lifted a two run home run over the left field wall. Colton Rowan hit a sac fly to center. Brooks Barber sent a two RBI double in front of the diving right fielder. The Saints took a 6-0 lead in the fourth. Colton Rowan walked and advanced to third on an error on a pick off throw to first. Brooks Barber singled to score Rowan. Cloud scored single runs in the bottom of the fourth and the fifth. The Saints added a key insurance run in the sixth. Grant Cox walked and Nathan Hopkins whistled an RBI double to left center. Things got hairy for the Saints in the seventh when Cloud plated four. Braden Whipple pitched 6 and 1/3 for the win. John Langehennig went 2/3 for the save. Brooks Barber was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-4. Cloud out-hit Seward 10-8. But the Thunderbirds committed three errors and Seward did not have an error.
The Saints got off to a good start in game two with four in the first. Hayden Ramage ripped a three RBI double to left center. Kotaro Wakui doubled off the wall in right for the 4-0 lead. Cloud scored three in the bottom of the first. SCCC scored in the second to lead 5-3 when Ryan Todd singled home Nathan Hopkins who had singled to lead off the inning. The T-Bird plated two in the third to tie the game at 5-5. Seward put up a four spot in th3e fourth to lead 9-5. Hayden Ramage ground ball to right right side game Seward a 6-5 lead. Kotaro Wakui lofted a three run home run to right for the 9-5 lead. The Thunderbirds scored 12 unanswered runs the rest of the way. The Thunderbirds had four in the fourth, two in the sixth, two in the seventh, and four in the eighth. CCC out-hit SCCC 20-13. Cloud had three errors and Seward had two. Kotaro Wakui was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-5 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI’s. Nathan Hopkins had three hits.
Cloud is 21-9 overall and 10-4 in the Jayhawk West. Seward is 15-18 overall and 2-8 in the Jayhawk West. The same two teams meet Saturday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field in Liberal with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
