Last year, Kirkwood took all four games at Brent Gould Field against the Saints. This year, the freshman oriented Saints earn a split with the visiting Kirkwood Eagles from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The teams split on Friday and on Saturday. Kirkwood won game one 16-6 and Seward took game two 5-2.
In game one, it was all Eagles. Kirkwood scored four in the first, four in the second, seven in the third, and three in the fourth. Seward swung the bats as well with three in the first, two in the second, and one in the third. But the “Guys in Green” couldn’t keep up in this one. Cooper Turner was 2-3 with two RBI’s and a home run. Jackson Phillips was 2-3. Seward had three errors and Kirkwood had one. The Eagles out-hit the Saints 13-7.
The Saints put it all together in game two on a cold blustery day at Brent Gould. The Saints scored one in the first and four in the fifth. Kirkwood plated two in the fifth. Seward out hit Kirkwood 9-5. Kotaro Wakui was 3-3. Jacob Urias and Nathan Hopkins were both 2-3. Michael Lujan pitched five strong innings for the win allowing one earned run with four strikeouts and two walks. John Langehennig went 1 and 2/3 scoreless with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Saints are 3-3 and play two at Odessa Friday at noon before playing two Saturday at noon at Midland.
