Saints Split with Conqs to Take Series

The Seward County Saints and Dodge City Conquistadors split a double header Sunday at Brent Gould Field.  The Saints won 17-7 in five innings in game one and DCCC won game two 15-12 in a game which went 3 hours and 41 minutes.

In game one, the Saints scored three in the first.  Cameron Cartwright homered to lead off the inning.  Jaxson Gregg singled and Elijah Bear blasted a two run home run to right.  The Conqs plated three in the second and one in the third to lead 4-3.  That’s when the Saints got on one of their patented runs.  They scored 13 runs on 12 hits bring 18 hitters up to bat in the third to lead 16-4.  Elijah Bear doubled to lead off the inning and Todd Baffa singled.  Tristan Curless hit a three run home run.  Trenton Rowan hit a solo home run.  Connor Cox singled and Cameron Cartwright singled him home.  Ranse Radtke doubled down the third baseline.  Todd Baffa doubled home two.  Tristan Curless hit his second three run home run of the inning.  Trenton Rowan doubled.  Connor Cox singled home two.  Ranse Radtke hit a RBI single.  The Conqs scored three in the fourth.  Jarron Wilcox doubled home a run in the fourth for the 10 run lead.  Brady Ritzmann worked a scoreless fifth for the run rule in.  Ritzmann relieve Elias Herrera.  Curless was 2-2 with two home runs and six RBI’s.  Cartwright was 3-3 with a homer and two RBI’s.   Bear was 2-4 with a home run and a double.  Rowan was 2-4 with a home run and a double.   Cox, Radtke, and Baffa added two hits a piece.

The Saints played poorly at the end of the series letting a 7-2 lead at home slip due in large part to errors.  But the Saints got off to a good start.  Seward plated three in the first.  Ranse Radtke singled and would later score on a wild pitch.  Trenton Rowan whistled a two out two RBI double off the wall for a 3-0 lead.  The Conqs scored two in the second.  Seward scored two in the second.  Jordan Crowder singled to lead off the inning.  Jaxson Gregg delivered a two out two RBI triple past the diving right fielder to make it 5-2.  Toff Baffa walked and Trenton Rowan walked in the third and Jordan Crowder grounded out to drive home a run for a 6-2 lead.  The Saints took a 7-2 lead in the fifth.  Toff Baffa singled and scored on Connor Cox’s double to right.  Dodge City scored four runs on three doubles and four hit in the sixth to make it 7-6.  Seward scored two in the bottom of the sixth.  Connor Raney singled to lead off the inning.  Cameron Cartwright singled.  Ranse Radtke laid down a sac bunt.  Jaxson Gregg hit a drive to center.  The Dodge City centerfielder Cooper Schneider made the catch and crashed into the center field wall.  Two runs scored on the sac fly as the Conq center fielder went down.  Seward led 9-6 after six.  DC3 scored one in the seventh to make it 9-7.  The Saints inexplicably fell apart on defense in the eighth as the Conqs scored six unearned runs on three SCCC errors.  Two errors were missed infield pop ups.  The Conqs led 13-9.  DCCC scored two in the ninth to make it 15-9.  Seward rallied in the bottom of the ninth.  Jaxson Gregg singled and Elijah Bear hit a prodigious shot to right for his Jayhawk West leading 16th homer of the season.  Connor Cox doubled and scored on Jordan Crowder’s single past the first baseman.  The tying run was up to bat for the Saints but lined out to deep center.  Seward out-hit DC 15-14 but the Saints committed five errors and DC3 had two.  Tristan Curless was again the Epic Touch Player of the Game going five innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.  Jaxson Gregg was 2-3 with a triple.  Trenton Rowan was 2-5 with two doubles.  Connor Cox was 2-5 with two doubles.

Seward wins the series 3-1.  Dodge City is 25-23 overall and 15-9 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward’s eight game win streak ends.  Seward is 29-22 overall and 18-10 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward hosts Lamar Tuesday at 2pm at Brent Gould Field.
